Let's go on with the show ....

Who would have thought that one year on from what would have been our post-production week of Five Kinds of Silence by Shelagh Stephenson we still would have not performed the play, or even have a date in mind of when we can open again?

We all know how the pandemic has devastated the entertainment industry and brought it crashing to its knees. So many of our friends have not had any work for over a year, lost jobs, income and struggled in a way no-one could have ever envisaged. It is with a small ray of hope in our hearts that we start to see adverts scattered here and there advertising new, or re-opening productions hoping to bring that infamous (and sometimes invisible) curtain up in May/June/July.

A big thanks have to go to theatres like The National who have streamed productions into our homes and kept theatre alive in the past 12 months.

For us at the moment, the future is still uncertain, we have to patiently wait. Having a 50 seater venue restricts us hugely on when we can perform again. Social distancing requirements in such a small space preclude us from raising our curtain just yet. We live in hope, but our priority will always be the safety of our audiences, cast, and crew.

When we can open those big old theatre doors once more we will pick up literally where we left off with our production of Five Kinds of Silence (although none of us can remember a word of the script, so we will be back at the drawing board with rehearsals!).

Over the past year, we have kept ourselves busy reading scripts. Our ‘to-do’ list of plays we would like to produce is a tad longer than when we began. However, we are very excited about the fabulous plays we can bring to our audiences. Watch out Eastbourne we have a packed agenda!

So this blog is a ‘we live in hope’ and a ‘break-a-leg’ one:

  • We live in hope that we can start producing exciting live theatre, and look forward to being back in our theatrical home - the wonderful Lamb Inn (boy have we missed being there) - soon.

  • Break-a-leg to all the wonderful theatre creatives out there that are working tirelessly to find ways to open our theatrical doors once more 💖

Cheerio !

Cheerio, but be back soon.
I dunno, somehow I'll miss you
I love you, that why I
Say, "Cheerio"...
Not goodbye.

Don't be gone long
Be back soon.
Give me one long,
Last look...
Bless you.
Remember our old tune...
Be back soon!

And when we're in the distance

You'll hear this
Whispered tune...
So long, fare thee well
Pip! Pip! Cheerio!

We'll be back soon!
