How To Adult In A Blog And How To Murder In A Theatre Company!

How To Adult Simone Stewart

How to Adult

Back in early February, just a few weeks before the world turned upside down, the lovely Simone Stewart interviewed me for her podcast ‘How to Adult’.  She says she started this podcast because at, aged 25: “I am trying to dig my way out of a quarter-life crisis. I've realised that burying my head in the sand (no matter how deep I go) doesn't actually help, but talking to people about their experiences, really does! Here, on How to Adult, I’ll be talking to different people about their quarter-life journey's and hearing some incredible stories along the way. I'm hoping that we can learn, laugh and get through this together! I mean, does anyone really know how to adult?”

In the time we spent chatting, and eating the lovely homemade cupcakes she brought (reason enough to take part), we spoke a little bit about my background, why I started The Green Room Productions and what it means to me and those in the company.  We then moved onto the story surrounding ‘Someone, Somewhere’ by Pat Davis, the play about Jessie Earl we produced last year.

For anyone of her age (or any age actually) feeling lost about their life and the direction it is (or is not) taking, listen to all the episodes she has released so far - they are very inspirational.  I apologise in advance for the speed at which I talk and my very pronounced South London accent! I asked Simone how the podcast had impacted her so far, and her reply was: “I think I feel far more comfortable, motivated and happier with life after these conversations.” – reason enough to tune in to them.  You can find all her podcasts at How To Adult

How To Murder

During lockdown members of the company have (remotely) met for online play readings, and every Friday evening we have had some kind of virtual games night - whether it be a Quiz, Bingo or a Murder Mystery!  We have made some wonderful memories together, our quizzes have grown and grown with imagination…. On one evening we were all running around our respective houses taking selfies of ourselves carrying out a nominated task, with a race to make sure that it was our photo that was received first by the Quizmaster for that night!

However, the gold star for effort has to go Broadway Murder Mysteries - ‘Bullets on Broadway’ online Murder Mystery.  We all had such fun taking part, and I personally have never spent so long getting ready to stay in!  It was an absolute hoot and we laughed - a lot!  The costumes were amazing (Danny had more than one!), the accents – which ranged from Birmingham (England), to the Bronx and right over to the Deep South (USA) - were hysterical, and we even had an awards ceremony at the end!  All this on top of having to solve a murder and name the killer in our midst!

Linking a ‘How To Adult’ podcast and a Murder Mystery is really quite simple.  It is about caring. It is about making the most of a bad situation. But most of all it is about getting the best from your life.
