WE HAVE HOPPED, SKIPPED AND LEAPT INTO 2020

Happy New Year!

2019 was a big one for The Green Room Productions. Being our 10 year anniversary we chose to start our season with the amazing (world premiere!) play Someone, Somewhere by Pat Davis. This was the true story of 22- year old Jessie Earl, who disappeared from her flat Eastbourne in 1980. She was a 'missing person' until 9 years later when her body was discovered hidden in dense undergrowth on Beachy Head. We worked with Pat and Jessie’s parents, John and Val, to bring this story to the stage. We all invested our hearts and souls into this production and we are incredibly proud and honoured to have produced a piece of theatre that impacted so many people in so many ways. It was a very moving experience for those onstage and off, and I know that those of us who were involved in the play will ever forget that time. When we collated all the emails, comments and letters we had received to give to John and Val, there were 10 A4 pages! We are hoping for some more news about Someone, Somewhere in 2020 so watch this space.***** ‘Simply stunning’ *****’

Our next production was Spine by Clara Brennan. Young GRP member Beatrice Frias Del Rio took to the stage and single-handedly (and magnificently) performed what was essentially an 80-minute monologue. She received a standing ovation at every performance… A truly great achievement for young Bea. *****’I saw this play in London – yours is every bit as good’*****’

We ended the year in December with the festive comedy Breeders by Ben Ockrent. It was a joy to hear the audience roaring with laughter every night - most especially on the Saturday night performance when the inflatable Snowman costume decided to die on us 30 minutes before curtain up and we had to quickly substitute it with a 10ft inflatable T-Rex costume! It brought the house down, and the cast with it! It was a great way to end our 10th anniversary year. *****‘A wonderful night of hilarious fun. We laughed full belly laughs from beginning to end’*****

We have already started work on our March production of Shelagah Stephenson’s incredible play Five Kinds of Silence. For this play we are welcoming two new actors to the company, Hope-Marie Henderson and Judey Bignell. Our first rehearsals have been fun and we are all looking forward to working together as a great team. Tickets are on sale now.

Our Summer production has a little ‘watch this space’ tag attached to it at the moment, and we will hopefully be able to explain more soon.

Our Autumn production is the wonderful award-winning play The Revlon Girls by Neil Docking. The play centres around the devastation of the Aberfan disaster and is a tale of rage, compassion, sorrow and laughter. We are pleased to be bringing this as a premiere to Eastbourne.

And whilst all this is going on, we are busy reading plays for our 2021 season!... Never a dull moment in Green Room.
